Crawlspace Repair: Restoring the Hidden Space

Your crawlspace is one of the most vulnerable parts of your home for sure. Not only because it’s prone to flooding in some cases. In some homes plenty of installations and elements that are key to your home’s overall health run through the crawlspace area. With that in mind, keeping a healthy crawlspace is certainly something that’s going to benefit not only your foundation, but your home in general. Here are a couple of things that we can do to ensure your crawl space remains in decent conditions.

Crawlspace Inspection

With most of the services that we provide this is going to be the first step. When it comes to crawlspaces the inspections are meant to help us spot the presence of mold. The last thing that we want to do is for example add new vapor barriers on top of the structure that’s filled with mold. You could think that trapping the mold and not allowing it to breathe or not adding moisture to the equation could be a good thing. It would ultimately decay particularly wooden structures that are common in crawl spaces. We want to see how everything’s set up and find a solution to your problems from there.

Cleaning Out The Crawlspace

There are certain situations where the structure is actually ok. If there’s been even some light flooding though the crawlspace is going to get dirty. The dirt buildup and whatever else builds up in there is potentially going to increase your chances of developing an even bigger problem if you don’t thoroughly clean the area out. That’s typically going to be the second step that we’re going to be taking when it comes to crawl space repair services. If you leave what’s causing these issues within the crawlspace you’re obviously not going to have much success with the repair.

What’s Going To Work For Your Particular Situation

Not all crawl spaces are created equally. At the same time the wear and tear that we find in crawl spaces can vary dramatically. We’ve been in situations where the amount of mold that was in the crawlspace was unsafe for the people living in the home. In those extreme cases we want to act as fast as we can to provide a solution that can be sustainable. At times, you have a company come in and provide some mold removal service. If you don’t fix the root of the problem you’re going to be back at square one sooner rather than later. That’s why we want to be very cautious about the type of repair that we recommend.

How Often Should I Get My Crawlspace Inspected?

It’s hard to come up with a number that’s going to work for everyone. A yearly inspection is always going to be a good idea. However, if you’ve had flooding issues in the recent past maybe you want to cut that down to every 6 months. Particularly as we approach the heavy rain season. As is the case with many of these situations we do like to handle things on a per case basis.
